Jakarta - The police said traffic accidents in Indonesia in 2012 had caused 1,547 fatalities. "The figure is quite high and impressive, in two months there had been 9,884 cases, 1,547 fatalities, 2,562 heavily injured, and 7,564 lightly," head the police public relations division Inspector General Saud Usman Nasution said in Jakarta Monday. Most of the traffic accidents involved 9,595 motorcycles, 1,357 public minivans, 207 city buses, and 443 cargo trucks, he said. "We are very concerned about the situation, prompting us to take preemptive action, coordination with evaluation of cases, and finding their solution," Saud said. One way to solve the reduce the traffic accidents is to stricter driving tests for obtaining driving license, and calling on the Transportation Agency to increase the conditions for car inspection, he said. "And for prevention, guarding traffic accident prone areas, and cooperation with the relevant circles, including preventing cars and motorists from exceeding speed limits," Saud said. (*)
