Karawang, West Java (ANTARA) - Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Ahmad Dofiri has projected that 2.1 million vehicles will depart from Jakarta by D+2 of Eid al-Fitr.
"Today, we are implementing one-way road engineering. Based on information from Jasa Marga, an estimated 2.1 million vehicles will leave Jakarta until D+2 of Eid (April 2)," he noted from the Cikatama toll gate in Karawang on Friday.
From March 25 to this Friday, Dofiri noted that around 1.2 million vehicles have already left Jakarta heading east.
He estimated that the peak of the homecoming flow on the Trans Java Toll Road will occur today, with congestion expected to persist over the next two days.
"Until this morning, there were approximately 1.2 million (vehicles) recorded, meaning this is already 60 percent (from the estimation). Hopefully, today is the peak of the homecoming flow," he explained.
"If there are only 40 percent left until tomorrow, or the 30th (March), hopefully, the traffic engineering can accommodate it. Even though there will be congestion tomorrow, we can still anticipate it well," he remarked.
The national one-way traffic engineering was officially implemented on Friday morning to reduce traffic congestion during the Eid homecoming period.
The scheme is implemented from KM 70 of the Cikampek Toll Road to KM 414 of the Kalikangkung Toll Road.
Dofiri led the flag-off event directly, accompanied by the West Java Police Chief, Inspector General Akhmad Wiyagus, and Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, along with representatives from Jasa Marga.
In addition, the police are implementing a contraflow scheme from KM 47 to KM 70 of the Cikampek Toll Road.
Earlier, Minister Purwagandhi said his ministry projected that the peak of the 2025 homecoming flow will occur on March 28, with an estimated 12.1 million people traveling on this day.
Meanwhile, the peak of the return flow is forecast on D+5, or April 6, 2025, with 31.49 million people projected to travel on that day.
The results of a survey conducted in collaboration with Litbang Kompas indicate that 146.48 million people, equivalent to 52 percent of the total population of Indonesia, are expected to travel during this year's Eid holiday.
