Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo elevated the ranks of three police officers who were fatally shot during a raid on a cockfighting arena in Way Kanan District, Lampung, on Monday.
"Mr Polri chief gives the utmost appreciation to all police personnel, and he has decided to advance the ranks of the three officers who died in the incident," Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division, remarked.
Addressing the media in South Jakarta on Tuesday, Andiko identified the three deceased officers as Chief of the Negara Batin Sector Police First Inspector Lusiyanto, Chief Brigadier Petrus Apriyanto, and Second Brigadier M. Ghalib Surya Ganta.
Andiko further noted that the officers received one-rank promotions, with Lusiyanto promoted to Commissioner Adjutant, Petrus Apriyanto to Second Inspector Adjutant, and M. Ghalib Surya Ganta to First Brigadier.
Furthermore, the brigadier general emphasized that General Prabowo had issued a decree declaring the three officers as having died in the line of duty.
"This decree from Mr Polri Chief will ensure that the heirs or families of the victims receive compensations," he explained.
He also noted that the autopsy process for the fallen officers is currently ongoing at the Lampung Police Hospital.
"The Polri would like to express its condolences and deepest grief over the loss of our dedicated personnel who carried out their duties to serve the nation," he stated.
Earlier, the Lampung Police confirmed that three officers from Way Kanan were shot dead during a raid on a cockfighting ring on Monday (March 17).
"They were shot at the head by someone yet to be identified," Head of the Public Relations Division of the Lampung Police, Grand Commissioner Yuni Iswandari, noted in a statement received on the same day.
She elaborated that the shooting occurred right after the three officers, alongside 14 other personnel, arrived at the cockfighting location.
