Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Police announced that the extradition of fugitive Paulus Tannos from Singapore in the e-KTP procurement corruption case would take at least four months.
"From our coordination with the Singaporean counterpart, the extradition takes at least four months or more due to the legal process," Head of the International Crimes Section of the National Police's International Relations Division (Divhubinter) Senior Commissioner Ricky Purnama stated on Friday.
He remarked that Singaporean authorities have a 45-day detention period to respond to Tannos' extradition request from the Indonesian government.
"Singapore will process this case based on their legal system. They will review and assess our extradition request, and the decision of this legal process will take time," Purnama remarked.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol Indonesia Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko explained that Tannos' extradition involves diplomatic efforts led by the Central Authority and International Law of the Ministry of Law (OPHI Kemenkum) and the Attorney General's Office.
"We have carried out professional arrest and arrest warrant. Currently, the detention is in the hands of the Attorney General of Singapore," Widyatmoko remarked, explaining the Police's role in the extradition process for Tannos.
Tannos, placed on the wanted list (DPO) on October 19, 2021, has since been successfully arrested by Singapore's anti-corruption agency, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
Before the arrest, the Indonesian National Police's Divhubinter submitted a provisional arrest request to the Singaporean authorities to assist in arresting the fugitive in the electronic ID card corruption case.
On January 17, 2025, the Singapore Attorney General confirmed Tannos' arrest as the Indonesian government proceeded with his extradition.
The Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Indonesian National Police, the Attorney General's Office, and the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are currently coordinating to expedite the extradition process.
