Blitar, East Java (Antara) - At least 200 residents of Sutojayan Sub-district, Blitar District, East Java Province, have been evacuated to safer places due to floods that have affected the area since the past several days. Floodwaters reaching a height of up to one meter submerged a number of houses in Blitar, Head of the Blitar Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) Heru Irawan said, Sunday. "The condition is considered unfit for them to remain in the flooded houses, so we have started the evacuation process since last night by using rubber boats," he stated. The local authorities have opened a public kitchen to supply food for the flood victims. (*)
