Agam, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto inspected the construction of temporary housing for flash flood victims at the football field of SDN 05 Kayu Pasak Elementary School in Agam District, West Sumatra, on Thursday.
“I am happy to see that the houses and temporary shelters have been built,” Prabowo said here on Thursday.
He said the construction of the temporary housing is targeted for completion within the next month, so that affected families will no longer have to live in tents. Afterward, permanent housing will be built, which he said would be of good quality and fairly spacious, covering an area of around 70 square meters.
“I would like to thank everyone who has worked, including the military, the police, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and others who have joined hands to improve the situation,” he said.
Prabowo also expressed his appreciation to the women who, despite being in difficult circumstances, still welcomed his arrival with joy.
“I am grateful that conditions are beginning to improve. Although we remain concerned, we are working hard to restore the situation,” he said.
He also thanked regional officials, district heads, governors, and others who continue to work among the people to address the situation.
“This is a test for us, and we will overcome it together. You are not alone,” Prabowo said.
Previously, the Agam District Office of Public Housing and Settlement Areas recorded that 476 out of 539 heads of households affected by natural disasters in the region have expressed their willingness to stay in temporary housing.
The office noted that the 476 households are spread across several locations, with 225 households from Palembayan Sub-district set to be relocated to temporary housing facilities to be built at SDN 05 Kayu Pasak and the Batu Mandi volleyball field, while the remaining families from other affected areas will be placed at other locations.
