Padang (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno on Saturday conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of temporary housing for disaster victims in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra.
The government will build 200 units of temporary housing in Pasia Laweh Village, Lubuk Alung District, Pariaman Regency, on 1.74 hectares of land owned by state electricity company, PLN. The project will be funded through the budget of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
“Temporary housing is not merely a physical structure, but a manifestation of the state’s presence to ensure that people can resume their lives safely and with peace of mind,” Pratikno said.
Pratikno noted that the groundbreaking also reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to accelerating the recovery of communities affected by hydrometeorological and ecological disasters.
“The central government, together with regional governments, is committed to speeding up recovery while continuing to prioritize safety and sustainability,” he said.
According to Pratikno, disaster management must be carried out in an integrated manner, starting from emergency response through rehabilitation and reconstruction. Each stage must involve all elements of government, from the central to regional levels, as well as the community.
“Cross-ministerial coordination involving ministries, agencies, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and regional governments is key. We want the recovery process to be fast, precise, and directly address the needs of the community,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi welcomed the central government’s attention and support for the people in the province affected by the disaster.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the temporary housing also provided renewed hope for residents to recover and move on to better lives, he said.
Governor Mahyeldi also emphasized that the West Sumatra provincial government will closely oversee the construction process to ensure it proceeds as expected, as every policy must be implemented swiftly, accurately, and in line with community needs.
“We at the regional level will continue to work in synergy with the central government and all stakeholders so that post-disaster recovery can proceed as planned,” he added.
