Team of Nine Meets Vice-President

Jakarta (Antara) - The representatives of the Team of Nine met with Vice-President Jusuf Kalla here on Tuesday to discuss the alleged criminalization of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). \"Attempts to weaken (criminalize) the KPK must be stopped,\" Jimly Asshiddiqie, a member of the Team of Nine, said before meeting Jusuf Kalla at his Vice Presidential Office on Tuesday. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had formed the Team of Nine in the midst of a standoff between the KPK and the National Police. Jimly expressed hope that Jokowi and Kalla would stop every effort to weaken the KPK. All efforts to weaken the KPK should be terminated. These included reports against the KPK, such as a subpoena sent to the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), he added. \"This has gone too far,\" Jimly remarked. He reminded that as an institution, Komnas HAM\'s main role was to promote the protection of human rights of the people of Indonesia. (*)
