Two More Former Legislators Nabbed as Law Fugititves in Riau

Pekanbaru, Riau - An intelligence team of the attorney general office arrested two more law fugitives former members of the Bengkulu regional legislative body.
The intelligence team in cooperation with the Riau prosecution office arrested the fugitives at the village of Logas, in the regency of Kuantan Singingi, Andri Ridwan, a spokesman of the Riau prosecution office said on Monday.
The two - Wawan Wahyudi (40) and Sugeng (47) - together with a number of other regional legislators in the 1999-2004 period were convicted of embezzling state.
Wawan and Sugeng were declared law fugitives since late last month together with six other former members of the legislative body.
They fled when they were to be sent to jail .
On Sunday, four other former members of the the Bengkulu regional legislative body were arrested by the Attorney General intelligence team in Jakarta.
The four Syarius bin Sukardi, Suwaryo, Siswandi and Arsyad Hamzahin were arrested in two separate places in the afternoon yesterday.
Together the former legislators were convicted by the Supreme Court of stealing Rp2.3 billion in regional budget fund in 2001-2003.
Two other fugitives Slamet Bintoro (54) and Yun Zainudin (74) are still at large. (*)
