Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) Afriansyah Noor confirmed that cosmetic products must be halal certified after October 17, 2026.
"In Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee Sector, after October 17, 2026, several products must be halal certified, namely medicinal products, cosmetics, chemical products, genetically engineered products, and consumer goods," he noted in a statement on Thursday.
Although the obligation to obtain halal certification begins in October 2026, he noted that many cosmetic products have already obtained this certification.
He also stated that halal cosmetic products are receiving significant public attention, including on social media.
"Cosmetics are included as one of the staple goods for Indonesian people, especially Muslims. Therefore, they should meet the Halal Product Guarantee Standards. Moreover, the current market share for cosmetics, especially among Muslim women, prioritizes the halal label when buying cosmetic products," Noor remarked.
Meanwhile, Deputy for Development and Supervision of JPH Chuzaemi Abidin stated that his side continuously conducts outreach and education on halal certification for business actors, including cosmetic product manufacturers.
He expressed hope that such outreach and educational efforts regarding the halal certification requirement will increase awareness and transparency in the cosmetics industry, as well as foster consumer trust across all groups.
"BPJPH is pursuing efforts in the form of outreach and education through various media," he stated.
Furthermore, he noted that the agency commends and supports entrepreneurs who expand and improve their product quality with halal certification.
On the other hand, BPJPH records show that cosmetic products, including toothpaste, are classified under the Indonesian Standard Classification of Business Fields (KBLI) 20232-Cosmetics for humans.
Currently, 81,343 domestic cosmetic products and 7,558 foreign cosmetic products have been halal certified.
