Jakarta, (Antara) - The Board of Logistics (Bulog) asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to get to the root of corruption case involving the speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) Irman Gusman (IG).
The country was shocked by announcement by KPK on Saturday that it has arrested Gusman, which has been often heard speaking loudly against corruption, for alleged bribery.
KPK investigators picked up GI from his house along with three other persons including businessman Xaveriandy, a director of CV Semesta Berjaya, his brother Willy Sutanto and MNI.
Bulog was implicated by receiving a recommendation by IG to increase sugar import quota for CV Semesta Berjaya.
IG was allegedly received Rp100 million from Xaveriandy in return for his recommendation to increase his company's sugar import quota for West Sumatra.
Bulog supports KPK in its attempts to thoroughly investigate the case and look for more possible suspects among the state officials, Procurement Director of the state logistic agency Wahyu told reporters here on Monday.
KPK made the arrest when Xaveriandy, Willy Sutanto and MNI visited IG just past midnight on Friday .
KPK investigators told IG to give a package, which turned out to contain Rp100 million he received from the visitors.
KPK believed that the recommendation might have influenced Bulog in increasing the import quota for CV Semesta Berjaya.
Wahyu, who is acting president director of Bulog said CV Semesta Berjaya is a partner of Bulog in Padang, West Sumatra.
He said Bulog was not involved in the illicit deal, adding Bulog is concerned with creating sugar price stability and "it is honorable duty that has to be carried out properly."
"We would not commit actions that would tarnish the reputation of the institution," he said.(*)
