Jakarta (Antara) - The Indonesia Council of Ulemas (MUI) will formally launch its television station on Saturday, chairman Din Syamsuddin has said.
"After waiting and struggling for a long time, MUI TV will finally become part of the country's efforts to make the nation brighter," he stated here on Friday.
He noted that the station would broadcast programs related to Islam to help Muslims in the country follow their religious duties.
Various programs such as talk shows to discuss fatwas (religious edicts) on daily life issues and things that are allowed and not allowed in Islam would be presented, he added.
"The station will broadcast programs related to fatwas on daily life events, halal and haram issues (things allowed and banned by Islam) such as inter-religious marriages and test-tube babies," he explained.
Din remarked that the MUI TV would also present discussions on shariah economy and shariah banking.
He added that the new station's slogan "Serving the Nation Solemnly" will reflect its vision of protecting all Muslims in Indonesia.
Din said MUI TV could be accessed through satellite, streaming or internet systems.
"MUI TV can also be accessed through Telkom 1 satellite at a frequency of 3793," he added. (*)
