Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - The Surabaya-based Institut Francais Indonesia (IFI) is hosting an exhibition to portray tsunamis and earthquakes from around the world, using audiovisual aids and posters.
"This exhibition is part of the French Science Festival held in Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Bandung, and Medan from September 1 to October 15, 2014," IFI Surabaya cultural and communications officer Pramenda Krishna A said here on Tuesday.
Themed "Amarah Bumi" (The Earth is Angry), the exhibition is being held at the AJBS Gallery in Surabaya from September 1 to 17 to mark the 10th anniversary of the devastating tsunami in Aceh on December 26, 2004.
The exhibition also serves as a venue for IFI Surabaya Director Mathieu Dumesnil to bid farewell to the residents of Surabaya in recognition of the end of his term of office later this year.
Pramenda said the exhibition is designed to introduce the Indonesian youth to science and improve their access to science education to enhance their knowledge of global scientific issues.
"Indonesia continues to face issues related to natural disaster management because the country is located in the world's most active seismic and volcanic zone," he remarked.
The exhibition will feature scientific activities hosted by several institutes of advanced learning and schools in Surabaya, Malang, Jombang and Makassar. (*) Reporting by Edy M Ya'kub
