Surabaya, E Java, Nov 6 (Antara) - A total of 62 rectors of universities from 14 countries in Asia met at the 17th Asian University President Forum (AUPF) at Surabaya's Petra Christian University (UK) on November 6-8, 2018.
The meeting was aimed at exchanging insights and taking precautionary measures against future challenges, Prayonne Adi, the public relations officer of Surabaya's Petra Christian University (UK), stated here on Tuesday.
Adi explained that the rectors' gathering titled "Disruption at The Cross Roads: Innovative Management and Future Challenges for Higher Education" was held to increase internationalization and exchange insights in improving the quality of higher education in Asia.
Meanwhile, speakers at the rectors' forum include President of Dongseo University of South Korea Prof. Dr Jekuk Chang, AGH University of Science and Technology of Poland Prof. Dr. Hab. C. Eng Janusz Szpytko, Board of Directors of the Sultan Zainal Abidin University Prof. Emiritus Dr. Kamarudin bin Hussin, and Prof. Dr (HC) Ir Rolly Intan MASc Dr. Eng, who was the UK Petra's rector for the 2009-2017 period.
The material discussed at the meeting was almost all related to the challenges in the disruptive era: the use of online services, innovations required in the disruptive era due to a shift in learning methods, as well as globalization and the context of educational change.
The series of AUPF activities include opening, plenary sessions and talks, dinner and exchange of insights, signing of a memorandum of understanding, and closing.
"This activity was supported by the Surabaya city government. The invited guests will be entertained with a 'city tour' and 'welcome dinner,'" Adi remarked, adding that guests will be invited to visit important and historical places in the "City of Heroes" in Surabaya. (*)
