Jakarta, (Antara) - Several ministers wore the traditional attire of their respective Indonesian regions during the commemoration of Pancasila Day held at the Pancasila Building, here, Thursday, at 8 a.m. local time.
The ceremony celebrating the birth of Pancasila was led by President Joko Widodo, who wore a traditional Jakartan suit and black "kopiah" hat.
Last year, the head of state had officially declared June 1 as a national holiday to commemorate the birth of the Pancasila state ideology.
During the ceremony, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution wore a long-sleeve batik shirt with "ulos" traditional woven cloth of Batak from North Sumatra.
Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effende and Tourism Minister Arief Yahya wore traditional Javanese suits along with a "blangkon" hat.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Imam Nahrawi sported a red and white Madurese shirt, while Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman was seen in a traditional Makassar dress.
Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo wore a traditional Batik dress, while Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly was spotted in a traditional Nias dress.
Laoly read out Presidential Decree No. 24 of 2016 on the Birth of Pancasila Day.
The birth of Pancasila was marked by a speech by first Indonesian president Sukarno on June 1, 1945, at the Merdeka Building in Bandung, West Java.(*)
