Jakarta (Antara) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said it will continue with the investigation of corruption case with suspect Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan despite failure of police witnesses to honor its summon. A number of police officers have failed to honor summon by KPK as witnesses in its investigation of the case involving Budi Gunawan. Budi Gunawan, who President Joko Widodo has picked as a candidate to replace police chief Gen. Sutarman, was named a suspect by KPK a day before Budi was to face the standard procedure of fit and proper test earlier this month. A few days later in what seemed to be a retaliation, police arrested Bambang Widjajanto, a deputy chairman of KPK on charge of false testimony at a session of the Constitutional Court probing a case of dispute over election of Kotawaringin district chief in 2010. Bambang was released after 18 hours of grilling amid huge public protest. KPK has summoned a number of witnesses mostly police officers including generals and retired generals such as Brig.Gen. Heru Purwanto, Insp. Gen. Andayono, now chief of East Kalimantan provincial police and Insp. Gen. Syahtria Sitepu. "President Jokowi gave a guarantee that the process would be carried out with accountability. That means whoever was involved in this should be consistent," Bambang said adding police should help in the process of unveiling the case. (*)
