Jakarta (Antara) - Former treasurer of the ruling Democrat Party Muhammad Nazaruddin was not among the inmates who got remission on the occasion of the Islamic holiday of Idul Fitri. "He did not get remission," Minister of Justice and Human Rights Amir Syamsuddin stated at his residence here on Monday. It was earlier reported that Nazaruddin will be one of the 137 graft prisoners at the Sukamiskin Penitentiary to receive remission on Idul Fitri. Amir emphasized that a prisoner can be granted remission if he meets the requirements in line with Government Regulation Number 99 of 2012. "The regulation applies to all as long as the criteria is met or the person concerned is able to clear the process held by the Penitentiary Monitoring Team and get recommendation from the Penitentiary Body," he added. Based on that, Amir noted that Nazaruddin, whose sentence had been raised to seven years by the Supreme Court, failed to get remission. On the occasion of Idul Fitri, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights granted remission to 56,704 Muslim prisoners from across penitentiaries in the country. Of the total, 820 prisoners were released after being granted remission. (*) Reporting by Desca Lidya Natalia
