Yogyakarta (Antara) - Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto would still have a legal standing if the meaning of his withdrawal was only at the domain of rejecting the recapitulation process of the 2014 presidential election, a legal expert said.
"If Prabowo only rejected the recapitulation process of the General Election Commission (KPU), he remains a presidential candidate and he still has a legal standing in the presidential election dispute at the Constitutional Court," Zainal Arifin Mochtar, legal expert from the Gadjah Mada University, was quoted by Antara here Thursday.
But he noted that Prabowo would lose his legal standing if he had entirely withdrawn from the presidential election process.
Zainal noted that if Prabowo completely withdrew himself from the election process then it implied that he had no longer considered himself to be a presidential candidate.
"Withdrawing from the presidential election process will eliminate his legal standing in the dispute at the Constitutional Court," the director of the anti-corruption study center at the Gadjah Mada University's Faculty of Law said.
Zainal remarked that by withdrawing himself from the election process, it is logical that Prabowo will lose his legal standing at the Constitutional Court. (*)
