Jakarta (Antara) - Chief security minister Djoko Suyanto has appealed to people to act wisely in response to the initial results of the election on Wednesday and prevent anarchism, which runs against democratic values.
"Our acts must be based on the spirit of democracy (and our) freedom must be carried out with respect to the law. Prevent any anarchism or destructive acts that could cause horizontal conflicts because such actions are against the law and the only way of responding is law enforcement," he said at a press conference.
In view of that he ordered law enforcement agencies, in this case the police, to remain on alert and stand-by mode.
"Be alert and observant. Conduct early detection against any counter-productive actions to democracy. If it happens, then all of us, the Indonesian nation, will suffer," he said.
In view of that he also appealed the success teams and supporters of the two candidate pairs to refrain from any provocation.
"The two pairs must ensure peace, security, and conducive atmosphere. Prevent any violence and disputes, which is not necessary and will only hurt us all," he said.
To the two camps, the minister said, "it is already over so let us wait for the official results of the election. Let us mend our brotherhood and create peace following the political dynamics in the last few months."
Djoko Suyanto added that conditions of security and order in the country were still good, while the election process had been smooth and orderly. (*) Reported by Syaiful Hakim
