Jakarta (Antara) - The volunteers of presidential candidates Prabowo Subianto and Joko Widodo have committed to maintain peace after the election by accepting the result to be announced by the General Elections Commission (KPU) on July 22, 2014.
"We will maintain peace and accept whatever the election result may be. Whoever wins the election, the true winner are the people," said chairman of Joko Widodo Volunteers (PROJO) Budi Arief Setiadi during a discussion in Cikini, Jakarta, on Friday.
Budi's statement was agreed by chairman of Relawan 44--Prabowo Subianto's volunteers--Syarief Hidayatullah, who claimed to have supervised 700 volunteer organizations.
Syarief called for all sides to keep calm and accept the result.
However, Syarief said that Prabowo's volunteers will gather at KPU building on July 22, but stressed that it will be only for supervising the committee, not for creating riots.
Separately, Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, had advised his supporters against venturing out on the streets during the announcement of the final result by KPU.
"I call upon all my supporters to stay at home. I will also no longer be wearing campaign attributes. Let us all reunite as one Indonesia," Jokowi stated after offering Friday prayers at a mosque in Menteng area, Central Jakarta. (*)
