Jakarta (Antara) - Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasa have urged the Constitutional Court to annul the result of the 2014 presidential election announced by the General Elections Commission (KPU) on July 22.
"We ask the Constitutional Court to annul the KPU's decision regarding the result of the 2014 presidential election," Magdir Ismail, one of the Prabowo-Hatta pair's lawyers, stated here on Wednesday during the first hearing session at the Constitutional Court on the lawsuit filed by the Prabowo-Hatta pair against the KPU's final vote count result.
Magdir also noted that the Prabowo-Hatta pair wants the Constitutional Court to announce them as the winner of the 2014 presidential election by gaining a total of 67,139,153 votes (50.25 percent) nationally, while their rival, Joko Widodo and his running mate Jusuf Kalla, received 66,435,124 votes (49.74 percent).
If the Constitutional Court holds a different viewpoint, then the Prabowo-Hatta pair wants the court to order a re-vote in all polling stations in Indonesia, or at least, in 55,485 polling stations where the Prabowo-Hatta pair believes that fraud had occurred, Magdir added.
The Prabowo-Hatta side claims that fraud in the 55,485 polling stations have resulted in 22,543,811 questionable votes. The Prabowo-Hatta pair also believes that the KPU has conducted vote manipulation, which has benefited the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla pair.
In response to the lawsuit, a jury member at the Constitutional Court Fadhil Sumadi stated that Prabowo-Hatta's lawsuit is not substantial and fundamental.
"The proposal to annul the presidential election result announced by the KPU needs substantial and fundamental proof. Does the Constitutional Court need to order a re-vote or only repeat the vote counting process?" Fadhil affirmed.
Meanwhile, other members of the jury mostly shed light on the technical issues in the lawsuit documentation, such as error in writing.
The Wednesday hearing session ended with Chief Judge Hamdan Zoelva asking the Prabowo-Hatta pair to rectify their lawsuit documentation. The next hearing session will be held on Friday (Aug 8). (*)
