Naypyitaw, Myanmar (Antara) - Indonesian swimmer Triady Faui Sidiq won the men's 100-meter freestyle and set a new SEA Games record at the Wunna Theikdi Aquatic Stadium in Naypyitaw, Myanmar, here on Friday. Triady clocked 49.99 seconds, breaking the previous record of 50.15 seconds set by Malaysia's Daniel William. Triady won the gold medal. The silver medal went to Vietnam's Quy Phuoc Hoang, who clocked 50.52 seconds, while the bronze medal went to Singapore's Kai Quan Danny Teo, who clocked 50.83 seconds. "Frankly speaking, I was shocked. I never imagined that I would break the record," Triady said. He noted that it was not easy to win a gold medal as swimmers from other countries also tried their best at the event. But, he added, he felt optimistic about winning a gold medal before the event started. The gold medal was the result of hard work during his training and the support of his family, he said. "It is about speed and power," he added. Triady, who hails from West Java's Ciamis district, said he would devote his victory to his family, who always supported his career, and his coaches. "Of course, the medal is also for Indonesia," he added. (*)
