Surabaya (Antara) - The Ministry of State Owned Enterprises plans to build a new runway connected to the Soekarno Hatta International Airport as part of efforts to reduce the number of traffic there. "The new runway located eight kilometers away from the Soekarno Hatta airport is expected to reduce the current high density at the international airport. I have assigned state-owned construction company Adhi Karya to conduct a feasibility study on this plan," State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan said here on Sunday. The minister added if possible, the government also wants to build monorail which will connect the new runway with the rest of Soekarno Hatta airport area. Earlier, the Soekarno Hatta airport management PT Angkasa Pura announced a plan to increase the capacity of the airport to be able to receive 64 million passengers per year by 2014. Based on Airports Council International (ACI) data, Soekarno-Hatta international airport is the world's 12th busiest airport, with annual passenger traffic reaching 52 million. (*)
