Surabaya, E Java (Antara Jatim) - Some 1,000 orphans held an anti-drug campaign to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the Independent Orphan Foundation in Surabaya City Hall on Sunday. "The event was held in the hope that young people would avoid drugs," Branch Manager of the Independent Orphan Foundation in Surabaya Mutrofin said here on Sunday. The orphans held an anti-drug campaign using their own attributes and putting a statement to stay away from drugs on a 19-meter long banner. They put their signatures on the banner as a form of resistance to drugs. Mutrofin said children should be warned of the dangers of drugs as early as possible in order to prevent young generations from the negative impact of drugs. He added, the event was held as a form of concern for the nation's children so that they were protected from the dangers of drugs. "We hope this activity can be useful and prevent children from dangers of drugs," please Mutrofin. The event was also attended by Surabaya Mayor Tri Risma and officials from National Narcotics Agency (BNN). The Independent Orphan Foundation is a nonprofit organization that empower all potential orphans and widows through management of zakat (alms), infaq (gift for specific purposes) and shadaqah (charitable gifts).(*)
