Public Confidence in Performance of Jokowi Goverment Increases

Jakarta, (Antara) - The public confidence in the  government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) increased with 60.5 percent of respondents expressing satisfaction with its performance in 2016, up from 50.6 percent in 2015,  a survey by an Indonesian think tank said.

"The public found the performance of the Jokowi Government is much better than last year," the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) said.

The public is highly optimistic with the capability of the government in creating a better future, Executive Director of  CSIS, Philips Vermonte, said in a news conference here on Tuesday.

The highest rate of satisfaction was shown in the maritime sector reaching 63.9 percent followed by  satisfaction in law enforcement  at 62.1 percent,  and political affairs at 53 percent, the survey said.

The public satisfaction in the economic sector, however, remained a big challenger reaching only 48.8 percent, Philip said.

The challenge is that the public did not believe that the  country's economy could grow 6-7 percent a year and boost investment, Philips said.

The survey said in Java,  male villagers showed greater satisfaction than  female members with the performance of the Jokowi government.

Higher satisfaction was shown by less educated and low income people , Philips said, adding, "This indicated that Jokowi has strong base among low income people with poor educational backgrounds in rural areas in Java.

The survey involved 1,000 respondents with voting rights  in the 34 provinces of the country.

The survey had error margin of 3.1 percent with 95 percent  credibility.(*)
