Surabaya (Antara Jatim) - Surabaya's economic conditions index (IKE) tended to be stable at 111.4 points, fueled by a 4.1 percent rise in residents' income indicator, according to the result of a survey conducted by Bank Indonesia.
The increase brought income indicator to 139.9 points despite pessimism about job opportunities that remained at 92.1 points,
deputy head of Bank Indonesia Office in East Java Syarifuddin Bassara said here on Tuesday.
"The indicator for available job opportunities consistently stayed at less than 100 points until early 2016, suggesting that available job opportunities are limited," he said in a press
statement.
Yet, the indicator for durable goods' purchase stood at above 100 points, indicating that the Surabaya residents' durable goods' consumption remained positive, he said.
He said household financial conditions in six months' time or until August 2016 could be kept in check despite a downward trend
in public savings.
"This condition is expected to lead to an increase in the amount of loans until the next six months, and will be higher than in the
previous month," he said.
As far as retail sales are concerned, the consumer confidence index is expected to fall from 118.1 points in January to 115.3
points in February 2016, he said.
The drop is the result of the public's low expectation of the future economic conditions as well as a fear of inflationary risks
and declining turnover. (*)
