Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - An AirAsia QZ8501 flight victim's body was identified by matching the surgical scar since the body's condition had deteriorated, thereby making it difficult to identify by comparing the body with its primary data.
"The body, labeled B024, could not be identified by using primary methods such as matching teeth, fingerprints, and DNA. However, it was identified through the secondary method by analyzing the surgery scar on the victim's belly," Head of the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team Senior Commissioner Budiyono remarked here on Friday.
The body was identified as Darmaji (67), a male resident of Malang, East Java province.
Other secondary data such as an ID card, NPWP card (Tax Identification Number), and a vehicle registration number were found with the body and have been used to reconfirm the identity of the victim, Budiyono revealed.
The DVI team, on the 20th day since the air crash, has identified 40 bodies of the 48 recovered from the ill-fated AirAsia QZ8501 flight.
Eight bodies are still being identified by the DVI team. (*)
