Simalungun, North Sumatra (Antara) - The Simalungun police recently arrested a woman with the initial SW who had buried her newborn baby alive near a banana plantation in Kahean village, Simalungun district. "She is the mother of the baby girl. The baby survives. The mother in under police custody at Serbelawan police precint office," local Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner Ghandi Hutagaol remarked here on Tuesday. According to investigation carried out by the police, SW buried her baby girl since she was ashamed of having another child as she already had an 18-month-old toddler. The suspect did not inform her husband about her pregnancy. SW independently delivered her baby outside her house at around 5 a.m. local time. Seeing her baby motionless for an hour, SW thought that the baby had died. Hence, she buried the baby near a banana plantation. "The suspect is charged with breaking the regulation on child protection with possible five years jail term," noted the police chief.
