Jakarta (Antara) - M. Najib Azca, an academician from the University of Gajah Mada (UGM), reminded political elites of the importance of implementing ethical politics in order to maintain public trust in the next government. "Democratic implementation is now experiencing an ethical crisis, and it will reduce public trust in democracy and the government," Najib stated here on Thursday. He pointed out that presently, the new democracy is just running in procedural stages, while the main problem lies in the aspect of ethical politics. According to Najib, unethical democratic practices, such as black campaigns pose a serious threat to the democracy itself. "Indeed, the actors of democracy in Indonesia at this time are undergoing the crisis of ethics, so they use all unethical means in their campaigns ahead of the presidential election," he noted. Najib further stressed that conducting election campaigns in a civilized way is an important pillar in democracy. (*)
