Police Seize 148 Kilograms of Marijuana in North Sumatra

Langkat, N Sumatra (Antara) - The Langkat Police Resort has seized 148 kilograms of marijuana and arrested a courier that planned to deliver the package from Aceh to Jambi. "We have arrested a suspect who delivered 148 kilograms of marijuana from Aceh to Jambi," the Anti-Drugs Unit in Langkat Police, Adjunct Commissioner Lukmin Siregar, said here on Sunday. The pursuit to the suspect began when Police inspected a silver minibus having police identity number BH 1785 LK, in Pangkalan Brandan at 3 am local time. The driver identified by his initial as IR, escaped during the inspection and headed the car to Tanjungpura area. IR, who is a resident from Kota Baru Sub-district of Jambi Province, also escaped from the inspection that was held in Tanjungpura. The driver and his partner hided his car in an oil palm plantation located in Padang Langkat Village of Gebang Sub-district. They put the marijuana inside a black plastic cover in the car. The police officers who were on patrol in the area suspected and arrested the courier and seized the marijuana. The police have detained both suspects in Langkat Stabat Police office. Lukmin said the suspects have violated the laws on drug and and would face a maximum punishment of 15 years in jail. (*)
