Jakarta (Antara) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has confirmed that suspended Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar, who was recently named a suspect in a corruption probe, had earlier used marijuana.
"Based on the results of tests and analysis on all DNA profiles on samples of evidence, it has scientifically and undeniably been proven that some of the DNA profiles found on the first paper layer of leftover marijuana cigarettes are identical with the DNA profiles of AM (Akil Mochtar)," BNN spokesman Sumirat Dwiyanto said at a press conference here on Wednesday.
He added that the leftover marijuana cigarette contained substances registered as evidence number BB/01/X/2013/BNN.
"So, with the results of the test that show identical profiles, it is confirmed that AM has used the drug found as evidence," he said.
He said BNN would continue its investigation into the ownership of the 1.2804 grams of marijuana in the four cigarettes found, one of them already used, in AM's office.
Also, three methamphetamine pills weighing 0.4867 grams were found in his office.
If proven to be a drug user, he said, Akil would be required to undergo rehabilitation for four years, as called for in Law Number 32 of 2009.
The results of the test followed an examination by the National Police Health and Medical Center on Akil's blood sample.
Earlier tests on Akil's urine and hair were negative.
Akil Mochtar has been named a suspect on charges of receiving bribes linked to a dispute over results of district head elections.
During a raid at his office, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) discovered four cigarettes believed to contain marijuana. (*)
