Pekalongan, C Java (Antara) - Mount Slamet in Central Java spewed volcanic ash eastward 1,000 meters into the sky on Saturday at 09:00 AM. "The mount spewed volcanic ash to the east. Despite the stated alert status, the condition is still safe for people," said Sukedi, an officer posted at the Mount Slamet monitoring station in Gambuhan Village of Pemalang District, Central Java, here on Saturday. The mountain is located among several districts, including Pemalang, Tegal and Purwokerto, and continued to emit smoke and some tremors. Sukedi said black thick smokes that contains volcanic ash often spews from the volcano, which measures 3,428 meters above sea level. The officers have prohibited people from approaching within two kilometers of the mountain. "Despite the alert status having increased, the people's lives near Mount Slamet remain normal," Sukedi added. "The people's daily lives near the mountain are normal. They are not worried about the impact from possible eruptions," said Laras, a resident in the area. (*)
