Jakarta (Antara) - The Regional Representative Council (DPD) is urging the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to open branch offices in the region as soon as possible.
"Unless the KPK has its representative offices in the region, corruption will continue to be rampant there," DPD Deputy Chairman La Ode Ida said at the legislative building here on Friday.
According to La Ode, law enforcement officers in the region fail to work optimally and, therefore, corruption continues to be widespread.
"In light of this, the KPK should immediately establish its representative offices in the region to limit the activities of those involved in corruption," he noted.
La Ode said the KPK has even proposed to the House of Representatives (DPR) that it set up its representative offices in the region, but the proposal has not yet been approved.
"For the sake of rooting out corruption in the region, I think the DPR has not the grounds to either reject or accept the proposal," he said.
La Ode then urged the establishment of KPK branch offices in the region be sped up in order to prevent corruption from flourishing. (*)
