Bandarlampung, Lampung (Antara) - A magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit Banda Sea in Maluku province on Saturday night but it caused no tsunami, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The quake was centered 150 km southwest of Maluku Tenggara Barat district, 408 km southeast of Maluku provincial capital Ambon or 2,637 km southeast of Jakarta at a depth of 161 km, head of the Kotabumi geophysics station in Lampung province, Yuharman said quoting a BMKG report. Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity. Maluku province lies at the meeting point of the country's two main chains of volcanoes. (*)
