Malang (Antara) - Three students of Brawijaya University in Malang, East Java, have successfully created an ammonia and hydrogen sulfide absorbing system named Nanotech Freshap. "It was inspired by the bad smell of a chicken cage. We just want to eliminate or reduce bad odor," Ferrianto Dian, one of creator Nanotech Freshap, said here on Wednesday explaining about the history of the idea to create the instrument. Finally they created the bed smell absorbing system which is a combination of Zeolite powder, Calcium Chloride (salt) and a filter paper measuring 2.4 nanometer. The Nanotech Freshap could be placed at the side of the cage. "With the tool we could reduce the bad smell by 80 percent. The level reduction depends on Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide to be absorbed," he said. According to him, their Nanotech Freshap has been used by the farm in Sengkaling, Malang district. "Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide are bad smell substances. It can stimulate air pollution and reduce chicken's weight or cause Zoonosis disease for the living things," he said. However the invention should be tested clinically. "We have planned for further study to improve the Nanotech Freshap so it could be used by the public," he said. Nanotech Freshap is the winner of Green Ilmy Competition, the national competition on written ideas in efficient technology section on May 17-19. The team members are Ani Atul Alif from Agriculture faculty, Ferrianto Dyan Kwy (Veterinary Medicine program) and M Rizatul Yunus (Engineering faculty). (*)
