Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) voiced Indonesia’s eagerness to deepen cooperation with Eurasian countries, notably Russia, to develop key infrastructure in pursuit of resilience goals.

“As stated by President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia seeks to foster friendship with all nations. We believe in dialogue over confrontation, cooperation over rivalry, and partnerships that benefit everyone,” he noted in a statement cited in Jakarta on Friday.

AHY called for stronger international synergy in infrastructure development during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026 in Russia, at a session focused on relations between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

He invited Eurasian countries to step up collaboration on climate-resilient infrastructure and stressed the importance of technology that protect coastal areas, reliable disaster early warning systems, and sustainable energy solutions.

In this context, the minister highlighted Indonesia’s ambitious plan to build a giant sea wall along Java’s northern coastline to mitigate the risk of tidal flooding.

He noted that countries capable of fostering connectivity and trust will play a decisive role in helping the world navigate interconnected challenges, including climate change, economic uncertainty, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical tensions.

“Indonesia aspires to play that role by serving as a bridge, a balancing force, and a constructive partner in strengthening collective stability and growth,” AHY said.

The minister outlined three priorities in Indonesia’s infrastructure agenda.

The first is decarbonizing the transportation sector to support the country’s net-zero emissions target.

Second, Indonesia aims to improve connectivity through the integration of ports, logistics networks, and railway systems.

Third, the country seeks to develop climate-resilient infrastructure that helps communities adapt to the impacts of climate change, including the planned giant sea wall in Java.

Concluding his remarks, AHY encouraged ASEAN and Eurasian countries to align their efforts toward long-term collaboration in addressing global challenges.

“Let us be a generation that chooses cooperation over fragmentation, resilience over vulnerability, and long-term partnerships over short-term gains. Let us build not only strong economies but also deep-rooted trust among nations,” the minister said.
