Pekanbaru, Riau - Satellites from the US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) detected 23 hot-spots in Sumatra on Friday, according to the Pekanbaru Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). A local analyst of Pekanbaru BMKG Warih Budi Lestari said the hot spots were detected in six provinces in Sumatra. "Most of hotspots were found in the Riau province. There were 13," she said here on Friday. There were three hot spots in Jambi, two in Aceh, North Sumatra, and Sumatra, and one in West Sumatra. "This is the largest number of hot-spots detected in this month," she added. Warih noted that the number of hotspots could not be predicted, especially in Riau province which had a lot of bushland and forests. "In Riau province, hot weather can trigger hot spots," Warih added. (*)
