Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid underscored the key role of technology and digital transformation in achieving gender equality and women's empowerment.
At the 96th Mother's Day commemoration ceremony at the office of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs here on Sunday (December 22), she also highlighted the role of mothers as leaders in the digital era.
"Actually, most women have participated in spaces for innovation, creation, and leadership," she noted in a press release from her ministry received here on Monday.
On that occasion, Hafid outlined the efforts made by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs to boost women's empowerment in Indonesia.
She emphasized the importance of improving women's digital literacy across Indonesia so that they possess the skills to use technology safely and productively.
According to Hafid, the ministry's digital literacy improvement program has succeeded in reaching thousands of women, training them to use the internet wisely and protect personal data.
Nevertheless, she also sees a big challenge in reaching women in remote areas.
The second effort is supervision and protection in the digital space.
In this regard, she pushed for the strengthening of supervision against digital content that harms children and women, including taking action against online gender-based violence cases.
Furthermore, the minister noted that empowering women through the digitalization of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) is expected to support the economy of each family.
Meanwhile, the third effort is digitalization for women's economic inclusion, helping women MSME players connect with the digital market to open up new opportunities and improve the standard of living of their families.
"As a nation that is facing demographic dividend and digital transformation, we must ensure women get equal opportunities to contribute in all fields, including the digital field," she remarked.
