Beijing (ANTARA) - Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto spoke highly of China at a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping by praising the country as a "superpower" and a "great civilization".
"In Indonesia's point of view, China does not only stand as a superpower but also stands a great civilization," he told President Xi at the meeting that took place at the People's Great Hall here Saturday (Nov 9) evening.
Prabowo observed that China has become a highly reliable partner to Indonesia in a variety of sectors, despite ongoing global economic and political turmoil.
He then reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to stepping up its relations with China and collaborating for regional interests, prosperity, peace, and stability.
The Indonesian head of state further expressed confidence that the harmonious relationship between Indonesia and China would contribute to endeavors to create a conducive situation in Asia.
On the occasion, Prabowo also expressed gratitude to President Xi for his willingness to receive the Indonesian delegation on Saturday night.
"I would also like to thank you for receiving me in April prior to my presidential inauguration," he told the Chinese president.
He admitted to being surprised by the remarkable welcome he had received from President Xi during his previous visit as Indonesia's defense minister.
Furthermore, President Prabowo thanked his Chinese counterpart for sending Vice President Han Zheng as a special envoy to attend his inauguration as Indonesia's 8th President in Jakarta on October 20, 2024.
"I believe that these decisions of yours reflect your great respect to the nation of Indonesia," he told President Xi.
Following the dialogue, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on mineral cooperation by Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, and Chair of the China National Development and Reform Commission Zheng Shanjie.
