Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian team bagged two silver medals and two bronze medals in the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) held in Hong Kong on July 22-31, 2024.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology here on Tuesday, Nazla Filia Taqiya from Bandung's Pribadi Private High School and Andrew Pratama Kho from Penabur 6 Christian Private High School won the silver medals.
Meanwhile, Nathanael Pradipta from Jakarta's 47 Public High School and Gilbert Liean Wu from Pekanbaru's Darma Yudha Private High School secured the two bronze medals.
"We are proud of the achievements and hard work of the students. Indonesia already has the best people for the nation's future," Head of the ministry's National Achievement Center, Maria Veronica Irene Herdjiono, remarked.
She also commended the coaches, schools, and parents who have supported the students in developing their talents.
According to Herdjiono, before representing Indonesia in the IEO, the students won the National Science Olympiad (OSN) in economics in 2023 and participated in the national selection process and three-stage coaching from the National Achievement Center.
During the competition, the students were accompanied by the coaching team, comprising Dwi Wulandari from Malang State University (UM) and Taufikur Rahman from Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
According to the coaching team's coordinator, Wulandari, the students had to compete with 53 teams from 52 countries in this year's IEO.
"This year's IEO participants were the largest compared to previous years," she remarked.
She further stated that the Indonesian Economics Olympiad team had to prove its worth in three competitions: economics, financial literacy, and business case.
According to its official website, IEO is an annual competition for high school students designed to stimulate the creative problem-solving skills of students interested in economics, business, and finance.
