Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi stated on Monday that the city government is cogitating on creating field isolation centers at the GBT Stadium or at other locations.
"The Surabaya city government is still studying it. Surely, I and the ranks and files of the Surabaya city administration will make all-out efforts. What is important is that Surabaya’s residents are healthy," Cahyadi remarked.
According to the Surabaya city government's website lawancovid-19.surabaya.go.id, the city recorded 491 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday as compared to 451 the day before. The COVID-19 patients are being treated at several hospitals.
The city government has prepared two buildings, with a capacity of 160-200 patients, at the hajj dormitory as an isolation center, he revealed.
The mayor is sanguine that asymptomatic patients will conduct self-isolation at the hajj dormitory. Hence, the hospitals will only treat those in dire need.
Cahyadi stated that Surabaya residents should realize that the number of people being treated or conducting self-isolation at the hajj dormitory is already quite large, reaching 480, as of Sunday (June 27).
Vice Chief of the Surabaya City Legislative Council (DPRD) Reni Astuti has made an earnest request to the city government to increase the number of beds at several hospitals following a recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the city.
"I have received many responses and questions from residents about the requirements for beds at hospitals for COVID-19 treatment and self-isolation," she noted.
