The extraordinary OIC conference is convened to discuss the Palestinian issue over the U.S. President Donald Trump announcing official recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The announcement has angered the Islamic world, which said President Trump has violated international covenant that Jerusalem has been illegally occupied by Israel.
"This is the first opportunity for OIC countries to jointly and firmly reject the decision of President Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israeli capital," Jokowi said before taking off from the Halim Perdanakusuma airbase in Jakarta on Tuesday local time.
At the extraordinary conference of OIC, Jokowi will speak about Indonesian rejection of the unilateral recognition by the United States.
"(We) will ask OIC member countries to be united in defending Palestine and will propose a number of steps that could be done jointly or individually in the Palestinian defense," he said.
Indonesia' the world largest Muslim nation, is among the first expressing strong protest against the U.S. move to officially announce recognition of Jerusalem control by Israel.(*)
