Jakarta, (Antara) - Coordinating Minister for Law, Security and Political Affairs Wiranto on Friday officially commissioned a task force to be in charge of stamping out illegal levies from the country.
The Illegal Levies Clean Sweep Task Force (Saber) was set up on a presidential regulation expected to clean all government agencies long beset by illegal levies.
It was formed almost at the same time with a police crack down on illegal levies at the Transport Ministry earlier this month.
The Task Force members include police officers, prosecutors , officials of the coordinating ministry of law, security and political affairs, the law and human right ministry, the home affairs ministry, officials of the national intelligence agency, the military, the Financial Transactions Analysis and Reporting Center and ombudsmen.
"Today, as the supervisor, I officially commission the task force," Wiranto said.
Members of the executive board of the task force include high ranking officials of the police department, the Home Affairs Ministry and the Attorney General office.
Wiranto said he was confident the task force would be able to systematically eliminating illegal levies from the country, adding ti would move simultaneously all over the country .
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Laode M Syarif said illegal levies are rampant in almost all government agencies in the country.
"One of the reasons is weak internal control as if the officials in control allow the practices committed within their institutions," Laode said .
KPK has often warned of the need for more effective internal control in all government agencies by giving greater role for Government Internal Control Apparatuses (APIP).
Laode said KPK would share information with the task force to strengthen synergy between the law enforcement agencies.
Previous governments had launched such task force against illegal levies but failed to last long.(*)
