Jakarta, (Antara) - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook Pacitan district, East Java, on Friday morning.
The epicenter of the quake which struck at 06.35 a.m. local time was in the Indian Ocean about 100 kilometers southeast of Pacitan at a depth of 10, Head of the Information Center and Public Relations of the National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in a short message text.
The quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, he said.
He said the quake was felt by people living in Pacitan at III-IV and in Bantul district, Yogyakarta province, at III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI).
There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage caused by the quake.(*)
