Surabaya, E Java (Antara) -- The government of Surabaya city in East Java issued 16,822 certificates of temporary residence (SKTS) since October 2014 as part of efforts to control newcomers or temporary residents. Head of the Surabaya Civil Registry and Population Agency Suharto Wardoyo said on Tuesday that his office had intensively conducted verifications of identity cards. The operation was codenamed Operasi Yustisi. \"We will encourage temporary residents nabbed during Operasi Yustisi to apply for SKTS soon. The application form can be filled online,\" he affirmed. After filling the online form, applicants will have to show the sub-district head a number of documents, including an electronic ID, a written statement of residence assurance from the head of the family, and a written statement of employment/education. \"We don\'t want temporary residents to be unemployed in Surabaya. So they must submit a written statement of employment/education,\" Wardoyo explained. Furthermore, Head of the Population Planning, Control and Development Board Arief Boediarto noted that he did not set a target for SKTS this year. The agency\'s primary interest is to register as many temporary residents as possible. \"To be sure, we diligently conducted Operasi Yustisi in collaboration with governments of sub-districts and districts. As a matter of fact, more and more temporary residents continue to come to this City of Heroes to seek employment and to study,\" he remarked. The SKTS is a temporary identity card that needs to be renewed every year. (*) Reported by Abdul Hakim
