Jakarta (Antara) - Indonesia's Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) spokesperson Ismail Cawidu said that the ministry has no plans to block the video-sharing site YouTube as it has done with Vimeo.
"YouTube is different from Vimeo. YouTube has a representative office in Indonesia. So, if there are any problems, it will be addressed and confirmed instantly," said Ismail here on Saturday.
He stated that the government has not blocked YouTube, even though sometimes they found pornographic content in it.
"As Vimeo's headquarters is in New York, it takes time to confirm any issue. We contact them via email. Therefore, if there is any pornographic content, it takes a long time to resolve it," he said.
According to him, the existence of YouTube's office in Indonesia makes the communication between the YouTube administrator and the authorities easier.
Ismail said that the blocking of Vimeo will be revoked if Vimeo removes the high-definition videos which are considered as pornography.
He said the ministry had sent a letter to Vimeo, asking it to remove all negative content from the Indonesian service. There has been no official response from Vimeo yet. (*)
