Jakarta (Antara) - Education and Culture Minister, Muhammad Nuh said that the 2013 curriculum already contained character building and reproductive health that can prevent early opportunities of violence and child abuse.
"So we have just added religious education and character building into the 2013 curriculum from Grade I (Elementary School)," the minister said here on Wednesday after attending a limited cabinet meeting led by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono relating to the national movement of child abuse prevention.
With regard to reproductive health education, the students will be introduced to child rights and obligations related to reproductive health in a bid to protect them, Nuh further said.
According to him, the lessons are taught in line with the child education stages.
"In Elementary School, the lessons are promoted in the form of themes, for instance, beginning with personal cleanliness, such as how to wash after urinating and defecating, something elementary students should know about," the minister pointed out.
In addition, the students are also introduced to the issue of preventing harassment.
Meanwhile, Vice President Boediono, on his visit to Blitar and Kediri, East Java on April 27, inspected an elementary school and also observed the implementation of the 2013 school curriculum at the SDN Modangan 02 elementary school.
On Thursday (Jan 23), the vice president along with Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi), visited several schools here on Thursday in an effort to inspect the implementation of the school curriculum. (*)
