Three Injured after Mount Sinabung Spews Hot Debris

Medan, N Sumatra (Antara) - Three people were injured in Karo district after Mount Sinabung erupted, spewing heated rocks, here on Saturday, said spokesman from local Disaster Mitigation Post Jhonson Tarigan.
"The three victims were visiting their abandoned houses when Mount Sinabung erupted and spewed hot debris onto their village. One of the victims, named Doni Malala, was a local resident at Sukameriah village, which is located only 2.7 kilometers from Mount Sinabung's crater," Jhonson said.
According to Jhonson the three victims had been living in temporary shelters for months, since Mount Sinabung first erupted last December 2013. The victims are now being treated at the district hospital.
Earlier, the Vulcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) increased the alert status of Mount Sinabung from "aware" to "beware".
According to the agency, people living in a radius of 5 kilometers of Mount Sinabung crater will need to be evacuated. (*)
