Anti-Graft Body Calls on Anas to Meet its Summons

Jakarta (Antara) - The former chairman of the ruling Democratic Party Anas Urbaningrum was subpoenaed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for questioning on his alleged involvement in the Hambalang Sport Center graft case. "We summoned him to probe the suspected charges," KPK Spokesman Johan Budi stated here on Wednesday. On July 31, 2013 and January 7, 2014, Anas failed to meet the KPK's summons for questioning as a suspect in the graft case. The KPK plans to serve another summon to Anas on Friday (Jan. 10). "We call on Anas to show up at the KPK to seek clarification on issues, which have so far been considered ambiguous," Johan added. On Tuesday (Jan. 7), Anas' lawyer sought answers for the "other projects" contained in the written order to probe the graft case. If Anas failed to meet the summons on Friday (Jan. 10), the KPK will be left with no choice but to forcibly pick him up from his residence for questioning. "The KPK investigators will arrive at his residence to pick him up for questioning at the KPK building. If he fails to cooperate, then he will be forcibly picked up," he emphasized. On February 22, 2013, the KPK named Anas as a suspect for allegedly accepting a bribe during the construction of the Hambalang Sports Center in West Java. However, Anas has not yet been taken into custody. In the Hambalang case, the KPK has named three suspects, which include the former sports and youth affairs minister Andi Mallarangeng in his capacity as the user of the funds, former planning bureau chief of the ministry of youth and sports affairs Deddy Kusdinar, who was the planning officer during the implementation of the Hambalang project, and former operations director 1 of PT Adhi Karya Teuku Bagus Mukhamad Noor.
