Jakarta (Antara) - The Supreme Court (MA) was able to finish a total of 15,556 legal cases from January 1 to December 30, 2013 even though it only had 50 justices, stated MA Chief Hatta Ali. "This is a historical record that the MA has been able to finish 15,556 legal cases of the 22,239 cases registered, despite the fact that we only have about 50 justices," the MA chief stated in a year-end press conference here on Monday. The 15,556 cases consisted of civil cases, special cases, criminal cases, religious cases, military crime cases and state administrative cases, he noted. Hatta Ali explained that the success of MA in handling more than 15 thousand cases this year was due to the division of chambers of justices such that each justice could handle the case based on their expertise. Besides, based on the MA decision No. 119/2013, each registered was given a deadline on its distribution or handling. Hatta Ali added that he had never delayed the distribution of any case that had come to each of the chambers' head for immediate handling. "The chamber heads also decided on the date when a case has to be handled, as soon as possible" he added. The MA chief stated that among the past five years, the highest number of cases was handled in 2013. He explained that in 2009, MA handled 11,985 cases and 13,892 cases in 2010, 13,719 cases in 2011 and 10,995 cases in 2012. (*)
